Friends With Good Taste: Reggye Green

In this edition, I had the pleasure of interviewing Reggye, a social media maven who works with a financial institution to curate media strategies and manage campaigns. Based in Harlem, with roots in Washington, D.C., she loves how social media keeps us connected and informed. Our conversation explored her journey from aspiring TV star to digital media enthusiast, and her current obsessions. We also delved into her fitness routine, her favorite travel experiences, and her love for discovering new spots in NYC. Join us as she shares her REPORT, some inspiring words, and where you can follow her adventures.

Tell me about what you do/where you’re located/why you do what you do.

Currently I work in social media advertising for a financial institution, aka making the advertisements you see across Meta and LinkedIn. I curate the media strategy and target audience, go through compliance to make sure content is approved, manage campaigns, and ensure our engagement is where it needs to be.

You can find me in Harlem, previously Brooklyn, but born and raised in Washington, D.C. And I do what I do because I love how social media is ever so present in today's world and the best form of sharing information and staying connected. Being able to share information and seeing how consumers receive the message will always interest me.

What led you to your career/interest now?

Honestly, I've always had an interest in media. When I was younger I wanted to be on television and even auditioned for a PopTart commercial. Once I got to college and joined a few student organizations centered around TV, I found out that wasn't my passion. I realized I did not want to be in front of the camera but more so in the digital media space, on the virtual side working with brands to share their message. Since graduating college, my degree in social media has led me to various roles in the museum complex, entertainment and news worlds, and now finance.

What are you currently obsessed with?

I'm currently obsessed with the TikTok trend "boots and a slick back bun, sambas and a little red bag!" It's so fun and catchy. I love how people have been remixing it and adding their own rendition to it. When I'm out with friends we randomly blurt out our two items in the same tune. It's basically the song of the summer!

TikTok sounds aside, this might sound random but I'm obsessed with the Sol De Janeiro Glowmotions Body Oil. I frequent my local beauty stores and I always see the two shades of body oils on the shelf just calling my name. I'm currently holding off from purchasing because I have a recently opened body oil shimmer that I've barely touched. I hate to waste products, so I made a promise to myself that before I purchase any new products that I'd finish out the existing bottle I already have.

I know you're a fitness girly. What's your favorite type of workout/fave brand? Any new workouts or brands you want to try out?

Peloton is my holy grail for workouts, with a hint of hot yoga from my ClassPass membership. I love to have variety in my routine with no repetition, so my workouts consist of strength training, yoga, pilates, cardio, meditation, and a hot girl walk here and there. Throughout the week I like to split up my time when it comes to exercising, so for instance at the start of the week I roll out my mat for a pilates class at home, midweek I'm hitting the gym lifting weights and doing yoga in the park, by the weekend I'm cycling and going to hot yoga. I like to call this balance.

You're a big traveler. What's been your favorite trip recently?

Unfortunately, I've become that friend with the reputation of always being out of the country. So as we're currently in the middle of the year, I've already traveled to 5 new locations (Cozumel, St. Martin, St. Barths, Colombia, and Arizona). Reflecting on the year so far, my favorite trip has been St. Martin & St. Barths. St.Martin is the French side of the island and on that side it was so relaxing and quiet. Also filled with mountains and tons of local restaurants. I loved it! Meanwhile, St. Barths is a 45 min ferry ride away. St. Barths had European vibes --- I enjoyed the sights, food, and of course shopping. Both islands are so beautiful. From the sunset beaches to the food and welcoming natives, this trip was nothing short from amazing.

Oh and how can I forget the pre-Carnival festivities! During the time of my visit, I was able to kick off their carnival season with the Jump Up. Seeing all the bands, hearing the various Carnival music, and seeing everyone enjoying themselves --- I literally had the time of my life.  If St. Martin isn't on your travel list, you definitely need to add it.

What are some of your favorite places/things to do in your city (NYC)?

Anywhere with good matcha, Korean bbp or Mediterranean food. I love venturing out to find new cafes and restaurants, so anywhere with my favorite foods and drinks is what I like to do in the city. Additionally, I love finding free events to attend. For instance, back in 2022, I randomly found a Halloween festival in the Meatpacking District that hosts an annual dog costume contest. Totally free to the public with various vendors and a good time. Ever since then I've been attending the event and looking forward to seeing all the furry pets in their Halloween costumes.

What is inspiring you right now?

Black girl travel pages. I really want to start a travel page documenting all of my adventures, capturing the sights, the food, the excursions and items I bring on vacations. Because I see other black women sharing their travel life, it motivates me that I can also do it.

Can you give us your REPORT (Reading, Eating, Playing, Obsessing, Recommending, Treating)

Reading: Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson

Eating: Trader Joe's Shrimp Scampi

Playing: Weekly free yoga in the park, despite the heat

Obsessing: The comeback of my natural curls

Recommending: In need of a refresher? Grab a glass full of ice and pour up a can of organic coconut water. It's life changing.

Treating: Myself to an Amtrak ticket to go home to D.C. for the weekend

Any words of wisdom for the readers?

Book that trip. Use that PTO. Apply for Global Entry. This is the best time to travel because we're young with no responsibilities. Don't let minuscule things hold you back from seeing the world.
